In-form Alan Bushnell had a net of small chub and dace to win the sixth round of Charlbury AC’s Winter League on the Evenlode.

He caught 10.8.0 from his peg at Fawler, using stick float and maggot.

The same tactics were employed by the second and third-placed men, Colin Cox catching a lone chub for 2.2.0, followed by Steve Arthurs with three dace for 0.9.0.

Oxford Waltonian and Cuddesdon Hill joined forces for an invitation match on the Thame at Wheatley which attracted 18 anglers.

Cuddesdon’s Geoff Ring had a few dace on stick float and maggot before switching to pole and chopped worm in the last 15 minutes to catch two chub.

One of them went 4.10.0 and it gave him a winning weight of 7.8.0.

Another Cuddesdon matchman, Richard Cantwell, was runner-up with a nice chub of 5.1.0 on pole and maggot, while Waltonian Martin Robinson was third with a chub of 4.11.0 on legered bread.

A 4.10.0 chub on legered punched bread gave Dave Head victory in Dorchester AS’s Hayward Cup on the local stretch of the Thames.

Ray Dandridge had a smaller chevin of 1.8.0 for second.

Big perch continue to dominate matches on the Marston AC stretch of the Cherwell.

Graham Bradshaw had only one perch in his net after four hours, but five good ones in the last hour on pole and chopped worm gave him a winning weight of 11.6.0 to lift the Hunt Edmunds Cup.

Close behind was Anthony Tompkins, who had eight good stripeys on the same method for 11.1.0.

Barry Lewis had two cracking 2lb-plus perch on legered lobworm for 4.6.0. Eight fished.

The Cherwell produced some decent action for North Oxford when 14 fished their latest club match.

Dave Scott-Picton had a mixed bag for a winning 12.5.8, while three bream earned Ron Hillier second place with 9.11.0. Colin Quartermain was third with a 3.15.0 chub.

Four chub gave Alan Bateman victory in Tackley Estates AC’s Last Chance Shield on the Cherwell.

He legered bread and worm for a winning 14.4.0.

It was chub all the way as Stephen Malone also legered bread to tempt three of them for a second-placed 10.9.0, while a single chub of 4.12.0 on legered maggot earned Frank Malone third place.

Jason Smith and Gary Pether tied for first place with 4-12-0 in Masons AC’s points match on the canal at Aristotle Lane.

Smith’s bag was mainly perch caught with worm on the pole from the far bank, while Pether caught roach with bread. Yan Stankowski with 4-1-0 was third.

Wednesday’s match at Oakfield Fishery was won by Barry Edwards with some quality carp to 8lb, while Richard Ives used a waggler to win Saturday’s fixture with 67.6.8.
