Oxford University went down 10-0 to the Royal Navy in a scrappy encounter in Portsmouth on Wednesday night.
The Dark Blues went close through JJ Dargan in the first half, while Will Kane later came to their rescue with a try-saving tackle.
The Navy went ahead just before the interval with a converted try while visitors’ fly half Matt Janney was in the sin-bin.
The second half proved a close affair with few try-scoring opportunities.
The Navy made sure of victory with a penalty in the closing stages.
