Aston Rowant seamer Karl Penhale has been banned for two weeks after clocking up his second disciplinary offence in the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League this season.

Penhale misses tomorrow’s home game with Division 2 West leaders Burnham to serve the second week of his suspension.

The 19-year-old was warned by the league for using offensive language against Burnham on June 11.

He was then suspended after showing dissent when given out lbw against Dinton on July 30.

Off-spinner Paul Jeacock replaces all-rounder Will Eason (holiday) as Horspath host Reading.

Having narrowly failed to beat Harefield last week, Horspath are now 25 points adrift of safety.

Captain Adam Krol said: “Last week felt like a loss. I don’t think our bowling and fielding could have been a lot better. We have got to keep pressing this week.”

Skipper Sam Lachlan returns in place of Tom Hogan as Thame Town visit relegation candidates Gerrards Cross.

Buoyed by their 16-run derby victory over Aston Rowant, vice-captain Michael Higgs is urging Thame not to let up.

“It was a pretty amazing game against Rowant, it went up and down,” he said.

“We showed some fight and team spirit to get the result.

“Gerrards Cross are always a dangerous team. We need to be on our guard.”

Promising young all-rounder Jamie Coles could make his first-team debut for Banbury in their Division 1 match at Bishop’s Stortford.

The Oxfordshire Under 17 batsman comes into a squad of 12 alongside fellow left-arm spinner Luke Ryan, who is recovering quicker than expected after a finger injury. Seamer Ed Smith is unavailable.

“Jamie has been playing well for our second team,” said captain Ian Hawtin.

“We thought we would give him a chance.

“I am not sure Luke is going to play. We will see how his finger is after training.”

Oxford bring in batsmen Chris Sandbach and John Barrett plus all-rounder Stefan Van Dyk for their trip to Radlett, but Nick Ferraby is unavailable.

Having lost heavily to Harpenden last week, skipper Jason Harrison is anxious for Oxford to halt their slide, which has seen them drop to fifth place.

“We are on a poor run,” he said. “We have got to find a way of getting a good result and finish really positively.”
