Dave Cresswell hit four goals as South League Premier Division 2 leaders Oxford Hawks won an amazing match 7-5 against second-placed Lewes.

Hawks met at Cokethorpe School to find their normal pitch with no goals, and set up for netball.

It meant they had to play on the second sandier pitch.

Lewes went ahead, and missed a great chance to get a second when their striker missed the goal after rounding the keeper.

Sam Chilvers deflected in John Billington’s cross to equalise and although the Sussex side regained the lead, two Cresswell short corner goals put Hawks 3-2 up at half-time.

In the second half, Lewes tired and Nick Lamb superbly marshalled the midfield for Hawks who extended their lead when Billington smashed the ball into the backboard after an overlapping run by Dan Money.

Cresswell converted a stroke after Fred Coppin was clatered in the D and he notched his fourth after sweeping in Ted Bennett’s pass.

With eight minutes to go, Hawks led 6-2 before a crazy finale, but Coppin hit No 7 and that proved decisive.
