GREYHOUNDS: Trainer Yeates has mixed bag

Top trainer Richard Yeates enjoyed mixed fortunes on the open race scene last weekend.

The big prize – the £2,500 Brighton Belle at Hove – just eluded Yeates, who is based at High Wycombe.

Boherna Blackie ran very well at Hove despite encountering trouble throughout the race.

She was beaten by one and a half lengths, but lost nothing in defeat. There was better news at Monmore on Saturday when Adamant Yankee was triumphant in the Lad-broke.com 416, and Lily Rules came out on top in the Ladbroke.com 480.

In Addition, his Mixababe and Tipp Are Back both finished runners-up in their respective races.

Paddy Curtin was also unlucky when his charge, Hello Deano was beaten by a short head in a £500 open at Nottingham.

Deano was well clear at the final bend, only to cramp up on the run-in, just failing to hold on.

THE grading strength has dipped to 319, the lowest of the year.

And now the racing office will be hoping that Monday’s trial session of 105 dogs will see a few more graded off to swell the numbers.

ANGIE Kibble is very keen on her new litter of four out of top grade bitch Broadacres Katie.

Meanwhile, Tony Magnasco’s former A1 grader Ardmayle Maybe has whel-ped a litter of eight pups.

By Ballymac Nave, there are six dogs and two bitches and will be reared by the trainer at his Milton Common kennels.

THE Irish Grand National is the latest target for Nick Colton’s Tic Tac Boom who won an A2 at Swindon last week.

His top sprinter Jolly Poacher trials after lameness next week.

ONLY one favourite obliged in the 12-race programme at last Friday’s BAGS meeting at Oxford Stadium, leaving the punters well out of pocket.

However, one trainer laughing is Maurice Massey, whose kennels at Blackthorn sent out five winners.

It was not surprising then that Massey shared the honours with Angie Kibble, who both had seven winners over the weekend.

EARLY birds can get ten per cent off festive bookings if they act quickly.
