Oxford City & County’s Katherine Hawes won the Oxfordshire women’s singles championships for a remarkable 11th time.

She retained her title with a 21-6 win over Shipton-under-Wychwood’s Mavis MacVicker at South Oxford.

It formed the centrepiece of a hat-trick of county crowns for Hawes, who was also a member of the winning pairs and fours teams.

She teamed up with Donna Grant to edge past clubmates Jeanette Berry and Sue Mayo 19-15 in the pairs.

And Hawes made it a treble with Lesley Storer, Carole Gaskins and Grant in the fours, pipping Banbury Central’s Carole Galletly, Helen Campion, Stella Amos and Caroline Campion 15-14 on the extra end.

The triples title went to Berry, Mayo and Margaret Stacey, who crushed Rover’s Pauline Ilott, Jenny Lynch and Ros Burden 23-6.

Grant added to her pairs and fours triumphs with a 15-13 victory over Galletly in the two-wood singles.

Helen Campion took the under 25s crown by beating Oxford City & County’s Jody Flitter.

All the finalists now go forward to the national championships at Royal Leamington Spa, which get under way on Sunday.

Hawes will also compete in the Champion of Champions competition after progressing from the regional finals at Atherley, Hampshire.

OXFORDSHIRE were beaten 39-22 by Bucks in the regional finals of the Walker Cup double rink competition at Crawley.

Caroline Campion, Carole Galletly, Gail Hunter and Jenny Gleeson went down 17-11 to skip Pam Armstrong.

And Donna Grant, Jeanette Berry, Katherine Hawes and Sue Lacey were beaten 22-11 by Mary Price.
