Banbury Central A suffered their first home defeat since May 2006 in the Oxford & District League, sponsored by Yarnton Nurseries, with a 5-1 loss against Oxford City & County.

Despite being a man short and missing seven first choice players, City & County won on three of the four rinks.

Central’s defeat further strengthened Headington’s position without their title rivals even playing. Bicester took a massive step towards securing top flight bowls next season with a 5-1 home win over South Oxford A, who are relegated.

Fortune favoured Division 2 leaders Witney Mills in their 5-1 win at Thame.

Two shots down on the game with one bowl left, Richard Barnett’s last wood for Mills took a deflection and carried the jack to hold four and win the game by two.
