Didcot Conservative Club go into tonight’s Group A clash in the Oxford & District Summer League knowing they must beat Kennington Club 6-0 at home to force a play-off against their rivals, writes PETE EWINS.
It comes after both sides won their latest matches 5-1.
Didcot won their points at home to Bletchingdon Club, while Kennington swept aside visitors Masons Arms.
Kevin Godfrey showed the way for Kennington with a score of 17,210, which included breaks of 11,680 and 5,530.
Lewis Stratford levelled by beating Ian Gordon 7,200-1,160.
Mark Trafford then played out the table, scoring 20,590 to restore Kennington’s lead.
Godfrey (12,180), Gordon (4,900) and Trafford again with 11,670 completed a great win.
It’s down to the last game in Group B with Comrades Club holding the upper hand after whitewashing Headington Conservative Club 6-0.
They are two points clear of Democrats, who won 6-0 at home to Gladiators Club.
Terry Green (5,140 & 4,830), John Patey (6,900 & 11,890) and Bob Parsons won their games.
TONIGHT’S FIXTURES
Didcot v Kennington, Masons v Bletchingdon (cancelled), Comrades v Gladiators, Headington Con Club v Democrats.
OXFORDSHIRE’S Keith Sheard won the over 50s singles title, beating Sussex’s Dave France in the final at Reading.
Oxon’s Pauline Withey rea-ched the semi-finals.
Wallingford's Tony Martin lifted the over 60s title, beating Berkshire’s Geoff Pitt.
Lewis Stratford finished runner-up to Sussex’s Martin Cole in the under 25s.
Stratford lost the first leg, but then opened up with 9,570 to lead on aggregate by 1,330.
Cole nibbled away and scored a break of just over 2,500 to take the title.
OXFORD & District Winter League entries should be submitted to the secretary by this weekend.
