Katherine O’Connor pipped defending champion Jane Binning on the 18th green to win the Oxfordshire ladies’ championship at Badgemore Park.

Tadmarton Heath’s O’Connor, champion in 2007, held her nerve to par the last, and then saw Frilford Heath’s Binning card a bogey.

It had been a ding-dong contest with never more than a hole between the players.

O’Connor went one up on the 14th, but Binning chipped in for a birdie on the 17th to take it down the last.

Both finalists had already been pushed all the way in the semi-finals.

O’Connor edged out Tilly Magill (Woburn), who set a new course record of four-under-par 68 in qualifying, at the second extra hole.

Binning also needed an extra hole to see off Studley Wood’s Lauren Jupp.

O’Connor had earlier beaten Studley pair Lydia Fox (7&6) and Gemma Clements (5&4), while Binning defeated Henley’s Maggie Buffin (7&5) and Burford’s Abi Laker (4&3).

Magill won the scratch prize in qualifying with 143, while Henley’s Sally Woolven took the nett prize on 148.

Studley Wood’s Sophie Stone, 14, won the Mid-Silver Championship after defeating Badgemore Park’s Dorothy Arlett in the final.

Arlett was two-up at the turn, but 13-handicapper Stone battled back to claim a 2&1 victory, helped by birdies on the 14th and 15th holes.

The Bronze title was won by Scilla Dudding, from Oxford Ladies, after beating clubmate Marie Frost on the 18th.

  • DRAYTON Park’s Eddie Pepperell has been named in the England team to face France at Chantilly on May 16 and 17.

The 13-handicapper saw her seven iron on the 17th land on the green, before rolling into the hole.

Edwards, the former ladies captain, recorded her first ace at North Oxford in 2007.

  • PAT Huntley and Sarah Webb (Frilford Heath) came joint fifth in the Mothers and Daughters 27-hole scratch foursomes at Royal Mid Surrey.

They carded 123, while Barbara Round and Sam Round (Tadmarton Heath/Cotswold Hills) were joint 13th on 125.
