Oxford trainer Johnny Mayo is a happy man after news that his kennel range in Worminghall is to be rebuilt.
It follows some three-and-a-half years of anguish for the former Jim Morgan kennel hand, from whose kennels he now operates.
Since Morgan’s death, Mayo has faced uncertainty over the future of the kennels and, indeed, over his own future.
It’s no surprise that, apart from success on the open race front, Mayo has endured a lean time at Cowley on the grading front.
The rebuilt kennel block will have 60 double kennels, and will enable him to house 120 greyhounds.
And so it ends ‘a will they sell, won’t they sell?’ dilemma from the family of the late Jim Morgan.
Mayo is upbeat about Burwood Freddie and Special Image.
He is considering the Derby and Grand National respectively for the pair this year.
