Sean Curran’s hopes of running Iris De Balme in the John Smith’s Grand National at Aintree on Saturday, April 10 are up in the air after the publication of the weights on Tuesday.
The ten-year-old, from Curran’s Hatford stables, near Stanford in the Vale, was allotted 10st 6lb, leaving him in 71st place in the list of entries.
With the field limited to 40 runners, a large section of those above Iris De Balme must fall by the wayside to allow the 2008 Scottish National winner to line up.
Palypso De Creek, from Charlie Longsdon’s stables, near Chipping Norton, also has 10st 6lb.
But Roulez Cool, owned and trained by Robert Waley-Cohen, from Edge Hill, near Banbury, is in the top 40 with 11st.
