HOCKEY: Hawks are getting that winning habit!

Another week, another win – it’s becoming a habit for Oxford Hawks!

The team that struggled so much before Christmas chal-ked up their third win in a row as they beat Wycombe 3-2 at Banbury Road North.

They were made to work really hard for the South League Premier Division 2 victory, but probably deserved it.

Hawks came out the blocks firing and went two up after 20 minutes with some excellent play.

Nick Ferraby fired in a drag flick from a short corner that left the keeper with no chance.

Soon after, Steve Collier doubled the lead, a good reaction effort from close range.

Hawks then relaxed and conceded two quick short corners from the corner specialist Duncan Parnis.

Three minutes from half-time, Hawks managed to scramble a chance off the line with Tim Martin saving from close range.

Hawks continued to defend resolutely with Dom Roche a rock in the heart of defence.

Wycombe missed a few chances, but dogged defending kept them at bay.

Collier fired in from an acute angle to make it 3-2, and soon after, Hawks also hit the post.

Banbury picked up a useful point in Premier Division 1 with a 1-1 draw at Teddington, Tyson Nunneley grabbing their goal.

Banbury stay seventh, two points above Oxford University, who slipped a place after losing 3-1 at home to Purley Walcountians. Richard Bond scored for the students.

DAN Pilbeam and Dan Smith scored as Rover Oxford drew 2-2 with Oxford Hawks 2nd in Regional 1.

Wallingford drew 1-1 with bottom club Newbury & Thatcham at The Hithercroft.

Newbury struck from a short corner and Tom Bugg equalised for Wallingford.

Second-placed City of Oxford were held to a 1-1 draw at Sonning 2nd in Division 1. Richard Harding scored in open play but City also missed a penalty flick.

Witney won 6-0 at Rover Oxford 3rd with Justin Peel (2), Tim Hardy, Richard Demczak, Tom Allinson and Frankie Clavaud scoring.

BANBURY 2nd fell at the quarter-final stage of the 2nd XI EH Trophy, losing 5-4 to Eastcote. Will Kellett (2), Simon Boardman and Richard Foreman scored for Banbury.

Three from three... come on the Hawks. Ferraby in the form of his life. Perhaps Keen Observer, that if Ferraby was on the Vino the night before a game as you stated, then he should prepare in this way for the remainder of the season?

Only a rumour Teaching Mafia but it seemed to do the trick!

I wonder if he will take the same line of preperation into his summer sport!???

This Tim Martin chap seems a inspired leader!

Hockey fans - disturbing news, the hero of the hour N. Ferraby was seen leaving Vanessa Perroncel's flat in the early hours of this morning. It seems that the Hawks Golden boy has joined the list of footballers whom have had relations with Mr Bridge's ex, could this tarnish his reputation or will he see "Team Ferraby" shirts worn by fans at Banbury Road North, we will wait and see....

You should be ashamed of yourself Gus! These unfound allegation could bring the sport of Field Hockey to its knees!

Ferraby is a clean living young man and a role model to hundreds of youngsters in Oxfordshire who look up to the savoir of Hawks! I suggest you leave his sort of slur to the tabloids. Hold you head in shame!

Im only passing on the information I've been given.

As a loyal Hawks fan for over a decade I am just putting that information out there and letting the people decide what to believe or not.

Personally I dont mind what the Golden Boy gets up to off the pitch as long as he keeps the Hawks winning.

Keen Observer; do you know where Ferraby spent his time during the winter break? His tan is looking exceptional at the moment, wanted to know if it was natural...

I have to agree with Keen Obsever, Gus be very careful when commenting on rumours, especially such scandalous ones that involve the Hawk's star player. Regardles of where he spent his winter, or whether his tan is fake or not? We, as Hawks supporters, should be greatful that whatever Ferraby has done to change his pre-match preparation, it has had the right effect on both the individual and the team.

Gents I understand what your saying, the "Golden Boy" is on the surface a role modal, inspiration and superb field hockey player with many a corporate sponsorships offer waiting in the wings.... rumour has it Weetabix are putting together the contract as we speak. But how many of our idols have fallen from their perches before? Woods, Hoddle & Gascoigne to name but three.

It is a slippery slope on Celebrity Mountain... I hope we dont see Nick tumble from the cliff face
