ICE HOCKEY: Shurmer's back for Stars

Andrew Shurmer has rejoined Oxford City Stars from Cardiff and should play in this weekend’s Division 1 South double-header.

The solid ex-EPL defenceman will more than off-set the departure of Lee Featherstone, who left to re-join Milton Keynes Thunder.

Stars visit Peterborough Islanders today, then host Chelmsford Chieftains tomorrow (6.15).

Under 18 player James Francis-Barrie is added to the aquad, while Oxford hope to have Andy Cox back after a shoulder injury.

In September’s visit to Peterborough, Stars destroyed the stuttering Islanders, winning emphatically 14-2.

However, the Islanders have improved since and when they played Oxford at Oxpens in October, Stars only just managed to secure a 5-4 victory with a disappointing under-par performance.

Providing the Stars play to their potential, in spite of the improvement and home ice advantage for the Islanders, Oxford should be too strong.

The Chieftains visit Oxford for the second time this season, having suffered their first defeat at Cardiff last Saturday.

On Sunday, they only just managed to beat the Stars by a single goal at Chelmsford.

If Stars are at their best, victory is not out of the question.
