FOOTBALL: Gordon is hat-trick hero for Abingdon

Leon Gordon scored a 12-minute hat-trick on his Abingdon United debut as they beat Beaconsfield SYCOB 3-1 in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup second-round on Monday night.

Joel Melville gave the hosts the lead on 14 minutes, with Gordon levelling on 77 minutes when he turned in a James Faulkner cross.

Six minutes later he put away the rebound after Billy Beechers’ shot was saved.

He completed his treble from another Faulkner cross on 89 minutes to complete the turnaround.

Abingdon will host the winners of tonight’s Maidenhead v Chesham tie in the third round. BANBURY United will be without Declan Benjamin (ankle) when they host Woodford United in the Red Insure League Cup second-round on Tuesday night.

Regular goalkeeper Joel Murrell is rested to give Kurt Fox a run-out.
