Aston Rowant maintained their winning streak with a convincing 113-run victory win away to Reading on Saturday to stay firmly in the Diviision 2 West title race.
This was Rowant’s sixth success of the campaign – more than any other team in the division.
It keeps them just a point behind leaders Beaconsfield in a congested table with a genuine prospect of promotion with only six games to go.
Rowant, who were put in to bat, started well with openers Tim Morgan and Tim Miles scoring 42 for the first wicket, Miles contributing a swift 31.
Reading hit back through Neil Saker, who claimed three quick wickets.
This brought Alex Jewell and Wesley Morrick together with the score on 53-3.
Jewell made 72 and Wesley Morrick 61 in their 122-run partnership.
Morrick departed when caught off leg-spinner David Hartley.
The visitors could not capitalise on their excellent position of 175-4 They suffered against the bowling of Hartley, who returned figures of 7-55 off his 16.1 overs, and finished on a slightly disappointing 207 all out.
Rowant’s bowlers tore into the home batsman, reducing them to 9-4 and then 29-5.
Morrick and Miles did the early damage with the help of some smart fielding Shelvin Gumbs them helped Reading to 78 before he was bowled by Karl Penhale, who came on for Paul Humphreys.
Reading’s middle and lower order offered little resistance, failing to come to terms with Rowant’s seam attack, and were shot out for 94 in the 35th over.
Skipper Morrick returned figures of 4-40, well supported by Miles and Penhale.
This week, Rowant face a tough test away to third-placed Gerrards Cross.
