The Thames at Medley was the venue for the ODAA Open match fished by 33 and everyone thought the bream would feed with a vengeance.

However, very few were caught and it was the roach that produced the goods.

First was John Beesley (Drennan GOT Baits) with two bream on feeder and worm, both caught in the first hour, and 9lb of roach caught on waggler and maggot. He was pegged in the middle of Perch Bay and ended up with 17.11.0.

Just missing out on top spot by five ounces was Dave Kirk (Fox Match Isis).

One peg below Black Jack’s, he landed a bream on the feeder and roach on pole and maggot.

Graham Ault (Fox Match Isis) was pegged below Godstow Lock and fished the feeder with worm to take bream and two skimmers for a third-place 15.0.0.

Charlbury moved away from their normal river matches to Lodge Farm, Fritwell, last Sunday and although the weather did not help presentation, Mark Rivett caught 86.0.0 of carp on paste over pellet at four metres to come out on top.

Fishing the margins with corn, Steve Arthurs had 72.0.0 of carp for second place, followed by Clive Taylor with 58.4.0. He fished pole and maggot well up in the water.

Predator’s evening match was fished by 13 at Stable Lake where in-form rob Guppy (RS Baits) won with a net of skimmers and carp worth 81.6.0. He fished the pole at 18 metres to the island with maggot.

Paul Dann was second with 54.3.0, edging out Andy Wiffen (RS Baits) with 52.12.0. Both fished the long pole to the island with maggot.

Kidlington fished their Six Bells Cup at Stable Lake, Kirtlington and the 11 members found the lake well down.

Craig Partridge used the pole with pellet across to the island for a winning net of carp and bream weighing 57.13.0.

Jason Bean also found some bream and carp, but used a maggot-feeder, finishing second with 37.5.0, while bream and carp also made up Terry Lester’s third-placed 37.5.0 on pole and pellet.

Points after 3 matches: J Bean 24, A Middleton 21, T Lester 18, H Clarke 16.

Twenty-three matchmen travelled over to Clattercote for the Kinloch AC club match, but the venue was very crowded and did not fish as well as it can.

The first three all fished the maggot-feeder,the winner Dave Williams using worm on the hook to take 28.4.0 of skimmers and carp.

Not far behind was Joe Welch with 27.8.0 of skimmers and third with 19.4.0 of skimmers, was Carl Mills.

The Cherwell fished well for the ten anglers in Marston’s Presidents Cup.

Although the river is still low and with little flow, there were some good weights.

Fishing the pole and switching between maggot and worm, Anthony Tompkins walked it with 11.1.0, comprising a 3lb bream, skimmers, roach and perch.

Steve Foster also used maggot and worm, switching between pole and feeder to take roach, skimmers and perch for a second-placed 5.11.0. Andrew Tompkins was third with 5.10.0.

There was a change of venue for North Oxford’s Frewin Cup from Carrots Ham to the Cherwell, and the seven anglers found the river with some flow and colour and not many punts.

Drawing opposite the Victoria Arms, Martin Avons began on the pole with punch, catching some quality roach and then switching to maggot for a winning 9.12.0.

Feeding small balls of groundbait and hemp and fishing the pole with maggot, Ron Hamblin weighed in 5.10.0 of small roach for second, followed by Maurice Winstone place with 2.9.0 of bits.

The Cherwell at ‘The School’ looked a lot different to when Oxford Bus AC last fished there, as there was some flow and colour.

Only five turned up and Pete Clarke took the honours.

He fished the pole and maggot, catching perch up to 2.2.0, roach and bleak worth 9.0.0.

Fishing the pole at 13 metres with maggot, George Kingston was second with 6.8.0 of roach, perch and a bream that went 4.12.0. Terry Yates weighed in a third-placed 4.6.0 of perch and bleak.

Litttlemore AS were on their Thames stretch at Sandford for the W Henwood Cup and although weights were not great, most of the fish caught were roach.

Terry Woodward was top of the pile with a good net of redfins on the waggler and maggot for 8.2.0.

Also using the wag and maggot, Steve Trotter weighed in another net of roach of 7.0.0 for second, and third with 4.2.0 was Malcolm Smith, who alternated between pole and waggler for some roach and perch.

The fishing was difficult for the Masons AC match on the Thames at Clifton. With the river still low, though starting to colour up, and strong downstream winds, all 20 anglers struggled.

The winner was Lee Funge, who fished pole with worm, caster and maggot for 6.6.0 of mainly perch and roach.

Phil Light finished second with one decent bream and a few small fish on the feeder for 4.15.0, and Chris Webb was third with 4.10.0 of small roach and perch on the pole.
