Oxford City’s Hannah England did all that was necessary to secure a place in the 1500m metres final of the Aviva World Trials at Birmingham. She finished second behind Charlene Thomas of Wakefield in her heat in a time of 4mins 16.97secs.
Steph Twell, England’s main rival in the final, won the other heat in 4.18.75.
England stayed in the pack for the first two laps, but took second place with 200 metres to go and looked as though she could have won the race.
But with four to qualify for Saturday's final, she settled for second.
Afterwards she summed it up: “Job done. It went very well tonight. Now for the final.”
