BOXING: Berinsfield are handed bus booster

THE season may have drawn to a close, but Berinsfield ABC already has an extra reason to look forward to the next campaign.

They have just taken delivery of a Mercedes mini bus that should ensure they can plan their exhaustive travel schedule with confidence this autumn.

Chief coach Mel Corrigan said: “During an average season we clock up around 30,000 miles travelling to tournaments.

“And that figure that has increased as our boxers have been more successful in major championships.

“The need for a reliable vehicle is vital and, thanks to the generosity of Hutton Parker Property Management, we now have that in place.”

The purchase of the vehicle represents a further cash injection of £12,000 by the club’s title sponsor.

Hutton Parker managing director Paul McMackin handed over the keys to chief coach Mel Corrigan and the smiling faces of the Berinsfield boxers said it all.

Former boxer McMackin said: “The work done for the youngsters at this club is just fantastic.

“Not everyone who walks through the door becomes a champion, but boxing – with focus on discipline, fitness and channelling energy in a positive direction – provides important lessons in life.”

The club has enjoyed a memorable season with Jordan Flynn crowned as Berinsfield’s first National Schoolboy Champion.
