KARATE kids Ashton Patrick and Luke Trinder have been awarded their first grade belts – at the age of just three.
The tumbling tots from Barton are believed to be the youngest in Oxfordshire to achieve apprentice red belts.
Members of the Oxford Sports & Traditional Martial Arts club, they passed with flying colours at Kidlington & Gosford Sports Centre.
Ashton’s proud mum, Verity Millett, said: “They are the youngest the club have ever had and they are the youngest we know of.
“It is usually five-year-olds who would take that grade.
“They had to learn different stances, do kicks and blocks and punches and stand in a line for half an hour doing it, and know their numbers from one to five in Japanese as well.
“Ashton doesn’t know his numbers in English yet, and they also know words in Japanese as well. They think it is fantastic.”
Ashton and Luke are coached by Verity’s partner, Phil Patrick, at Barton Community Centre.
