CRICKET: Gibbins flies in

Horspath's Australian all-rounder Alister Gibbins is due to make a belated arrival in the country on Friday.

The Tasmanian had hoped to join Horspath for the start of The Oxford Times Cherwell League season, but has been delayed while finalising his ancestry visa – he has a British grandmother.

Gibbins, who is captain and senior coach at Riverside CC, will be the third Tasmanian to play for the club in three seasons after Adam Pitt and Ollie Robinson.

Checked the UK Borders Agency website out. Seems like Ancestry VISA entitles the lad to play sport (amateur or pro) and stay for 5 years.

Not sure even the Cherwell League could have a problem on this one! ;-)

Jenkins the Cherwell League make up the rules as they go along.

anything that suits the big guns is in anything that suits the majority are out.

Rules have been there since start of year, haven't they?

Are Horspath considered "big guns" then?

Morning all,

Bit late hopping on but if he would,ve arrived earlier in the season then would Horspath have played in VKO?

Morning Beefy,

Why wouldn't they have played in VKO?

I thought he was paying his own way, as have the last 3 Tasmanian's they've had in 2007 and 2008.

He's not a "professional cricketer" as some playing in the Cherwell League profess to be on their MySpace pages!

Im glad we got going on this one this morning. Firstly, i like the name. Alister Gibbins....non-threa
tening, almost english. Better then Johann Myburgh anyway. Looking forward to meeting him, what bar will he be working in?

Power,

Almost Scottish I reckon (Grandma from north of the border!).

I think he's running the bar at Miskin Manor for the England .v. Wales NVC match........ ;-)

Does anyone else think its strange that Horspath rearranged their 20/20 clash for next week when they may 'possibly' be strengthened by Mr Gibbins...hmmm, Oxford and Horspath playing a grudge match....should be an interesting match!!

According to my friends daughters boyfriends fathers uncle at Rover Way, Horspath offered 29 June and 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 of July and the 9th was the only date Oxford could do!

Surely nothing to do with all their stellar superstars only being available on that night.

No, surely not.

Will have to take a wander, with hubby, along the long and lonely Oxford Rd next Thurs to see who fields what!

You be there Power?

Pre-season training? Last time I saw you it looked like you were in all year round training, so surely missing one session wouldn't harm.... ;-)

I'm the coach....would probably set a bad example if I wasnt there!!

Fair point.

Just make sure whoever you send to heckle is up to your exacting standards of banter, please.
