MARTIAL ARTS: Drewett leads world triumph

Kelly Drewett was the star of the show as Windrush Kickboxing Club came away from the WUMA World Kickboxing Championships in Greece with a cluster of titles.

Drewett claimed five gold medals in an outstanding display, triumphing in the ladies open-weight, and ladies heavyweight (both continuous), ladies open-weight, and ladies heavyweight (semi-contact) and team event.

Chris Hoyles won golds in the Continuous Light-Heavyweight, and semi-contact (masters), while Scott Kilburn triumphed in the the Middleweight full contact.

Steve Simmons regained his masters world crown, winning gold in both the full contact and continuous points category.

Dave Heron, competing in the 90kg class, won silver in both the masters and over 35s, while Dale Jordan came away with two silvers in the 70kg category for self defence and continuous, before going on to clinch another silver in the open class.

In the junior events, Imogen Shayler, from Witney, won four golds, triumphing in the continuous, semi-contact, overall points and team event.

She was joined in the gold medal-winning team by Courtney Bateman, from Begbroke, who also won silver in the continuous – where she was beaten by Shayler – and bronze in the overall points.

Oxford’s Paul Dolton won the individual under 16 event, and picked up silvers in the semi-contact, self defence and team events.

Jordan Petersons, 15, who attends Burford School, came away with two silver medals, finishing second in both the individual and team events.
