Oxford United striker James Constable is itching to continue his good form against Wrexham tomorrow - and has happy memories of the last time he faced the Red Dragons.

Constable is on a season-long loan to Oxford from Coca-Cola League Two club Shrewsbury, and Wrexham happen to be Town's arch rivals.

He said: "We played against Wrexham when I was with them last season and it went well for me.

"We won 3-0 - and I think Wrexham got relegated that day - and I was lucky enough to get on the scoresheet that game, so I'll be hoping to do that again."

Constable got off the mark by bagging a brace in Saturday's 6-3 win over Eastbourne Borough and admits that has taken a weight off his shoulders.

"The gaffer brought me in because I've got goals wherever I've been, and the first couple of games I'd not scored, so the pressure was on a bit," he said.

"We'd under-performed in the first two games and it was a case of putting it right.

"With Barrow, we knew all about them, we knew they were going to be fighters, but we just under-performed on the day.

"It was a long journey there, I think it all just took its toll.

"Last Tuesday night we were the better side against Weymouth, we had more than 15 shots at the target, and they went up the other end and had two chances, and scored one of them.

"The boys knew we were good enough, it was just a question of taking our chances, and that's how it worked out in the end.

"We showed real guts to go on and get six goals after a few things had gone against us."

The 23-year-old former Walsall and Kidderminster forward added: "There's still a few things we can work on. We probably concede a few too many goals, but we've got the strike force to score goals.

"And if we can score six when we've not done as well as we could, that only makes us confident for more games.

"The workrate of the boys was phenomenal. It was six, but it could have been eight, nine or ten . . . however many we wanted to get really.

"We've got a big game now on Thursday night and I'm looking forward to that."

I can't see a positive result for Oxford at Wrexham tomorrow. Away against one of the top ten teams, a mid-week game, long journey and on TV. If Barrow and Weymouth can do us 3-0 and 0-1 I'm going for a 4-0 win to Wrexham. Hurts to say it but I just can't see any other result.

"It was a long journey there and i think it took its toll" and "We were a better side against Weymouth........they had 2 chances and scored" just two little gems spoken by James Constable and to me they explain why this side of ours so often under perfoms and under achieves, he also said we are better than that, Kelly Sotherton said similar and she also ended up losing out in the Olympic Heptathlon. We need to rid the club and team of that mentality, we are only as good as the performance and only get what is put in to that performance and quite simply we are not putting enough in, the Eastbourne game was proof positive that we are not a good side YET. Also Wrexham is a long way from Oxford so is he preparing us for the worst...............
.? For me a home game is a 320 mile round trip usually in a day but i do it and if i can do it and still shout them on then i think i deserve better from the team. Its time to stop the excuses and deliver match winning performances on a regular basis. The fans deserve it!

Richard Wickson, you've hit the nail on the head there. For too long oxford have seen themselves as better than their league standing and as such games should be easy. Fans were commenting on the fact that we would beat Barrow 6-0 before the game. So i think its not a case of working harder (as nearly all footballers want to win games and will try) but actually we are a Blue Sq premier team, because that's where we deserve to be. Maybe if we actually acknowledged that, we might start playing like a team that's in this league, as opposed to a team that ws in the league cup final 22 years ago (greta days though, i wouldn't swap them for the world)

its an old cliche but you have to fight for your right to play and that's what the team must do tomorrow. they must give close wrexham down and give them no time on the ball. Once they have done this they think about showing how good they are with the ball, but they have to do the basics first....
