Jordan Garnish won the Oxfordshire Junior League Championship after shooting a three-over-par 75 at Magnolia Park.

Victory underlined the progress Garnish, who also claimed the under 16 title, has made.

He joined The Oxfordshire two years ago with a handicap of 24, which he has now cut to five.

Dean Newbold (Frillford Heath) finished second on 76. Jake Casker (North Oxford) was third with 77.

The girls' competition was won by Flora McPhail (Frillford Heath).

  • IT was a good weekend for Frilford Heath's Walton family with father and son both winning tournaments.

Dad Derek claimed Frilford's Skelton Salver on countback from Neil Pimm after shooting a 70 on the Blue Course.

Son Ashley, the BB&O amateur champion, won the Oppenheimer Bowl at Temple GC.

  • Frilford's ladies also had plenty to cheer about after reaching the last 16 of the Mail on Sunday Classic.

They won through with a nailbiting 3 & 2 victory over Ellesborough on their Red Course with four matches decided on the 18th hole.

Jane Binning led the way with a two-hole victory over Fiona Thompson, but Andrea James couldn't follow suit losing to Jess Burrows by the same margin.

Third up for Frilford, Annie Gowing beat Hollie Small on the 18th, after a fiercely-contested match.

Angela Tyreman fought hard to win by the same narrow margin, just one hole, against Steph Gough.

Frilford's anchor Kate Evans lost her battle to Clara Leathers on the 17th.

  • The Oxfordshire's annual charity day raised £23,000 for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

John Whittington, John Hathaway, Ben Cotton and Tim Mitchell took first place for the day with a total of 89 points.
