Chinnor started 2008 with a fine victory that kept them just a point behind leaders Bracknell. Here is the numbers' game. See Tuesday's paper for full report.

Competition: South West 1

Score: Chinnor 29, Cleve 0

Chinnor player ratings:

15. Ben Hewitt 9 (STAR MAN, shone throughout despite forward-orientated game)

14. Martyn O'Mahony 7 (only had one real run, but worked hard)

13. Richard Williams 7 (used the ball well)

12. Darren Oxley 7 (made good ground, but ran out of steam)

11. Pip Seymour 7 (total commitment)

10. James Cathcart 8 (a great day with the boot)

9. Owen Gustafson 6 (found it harder after the break)

1. Joe Winpenny 7 (solid, always involved)

2. Pat Stennings 7 (threw well, try-scorer)

3. Tom Whelan 7 (try capped industrious effort)

4. Andy Millburn 6 (lacked usual aggression)

5. Craig Burrows 8 (dominant display, safe hands)

6. Adam Hastings 8 (tireless, especially in defence)

7. Andrew McGuire 8 (powerful effort, sin-binned)

8. Zane Winslade 7 (has been more prominent, sin-binned)

Replacements:

16. Danny Burns 7 (slotted in well at centre).

17. Sam Blewitt 6 (promising debut).

18. Joe Iosefo-Peni 6 (did his job).

Referee: Dino Maddern (Gloucester) 7 - very few contentious incidents

Entertainment rating: 6.

Highlight: Chinnor's control of the driving maul.

Lowlight: Cleve's lack of invention.

I watched the gane on Saturday and have to say Chinnor played with real authority and control. Cleve were dead and buried by half time and were never in the match. I think some of the player ratings are a little harsh, particularly Winpenny's and Mcguire's who were both outstanding at the breakdown and responsible for numerous turnovers. Bring on Bracknell next week and keep up the good work boys.

There appears to be a recurring theme here, Chinnor never seem to be happy with their ratings. Most people are happy with an 80% score (i.e. McGuire - 8 out of 10) - this could hardly be adjudged "harsh".
However, let's give him 90% (that is an extra mark, for you villagers out there) and an extra mark for Winpenny too. This makes the Chinnor team score 113, still 5 short of my team of the season score, 118 by Oxford Harlequins.
I hope to be there to present the Numbers Game trophy on 19 April, but so far have been unable to locate a rugby ground in Chinnor. Have they taken the rugby club out of the village?
Lots of love
Carol

Its funny to see all this ''Village'' talk coming from the ''Big City'' Quins, who if i'm not mistaken have probably the worse facilities in the League and have to groundshare!

Not bad for a ''Big City'' Outfit!
