OXFORD City recorded their first win of the season after a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Torquay United last night.

Rob Sinclair scored the only goal 30 minutes into their Vanarama National League South clash, converting Matt Paterson’s pass.

Joe Oastler almost doubled City’s lead, but after the break the visitors were on top.

Brett Williams struck the crossbar and shortly afterwards, Samir Nabi’s shot hit a post.

But City stood firm to get off the mark at the fourth attempt.

Oxford City: King, Godwin-Malife (Jones 69), Jefford, Ashby, Ruddick, Oastler, McEachran, Fleet, Paterson, Sinclair (Wiltshire 86), Tshimanga (Eze 90). Subs not used. Fasanmade, Krasniqi.

Banbury United also secured three points, beating Halesowen 2-1 in their first home Evo-Stik South League Premier Central Division fixture of the season.

Mike Ford’s side, who drew their opening match on Saturday, went ahead when skipper Charlie Wise fired home early on.

Halesowen levelled when former Oxford United striker James Roberts scored a penalty.

But Banbury restored their lead through a superb 25-yard strike from Greg Kazibone.

And the hosts dug deep after the break to secure victory.
