KARL Robinson was happy overall with what he saw from his Oxford United players as they lost out to Crystal Palace in pre-season.

Jon Obika put the U's in front at the Kassam Stadium, but Roy Hodgson's side hit back to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Wilfried Zaha, Jeffrey Schlupp and Sulley Kaikai after the break.

Robinson said: "For 60 minutes we were excellent and then we became a little bit self-confident.

"We tried to play through gaps that were never there and they hit us on the break twice.

"With the power, pace and quality they possess is unreal.

"The gulf was certainly there, but I thought for an hour we looked very good.

"We frustrated them and then picked them off, but in the second half we became so disorganised.

"You can get away with that in League One, but when you’ve got Andros Townsend, Zaha and Jeffrey Schlupp bearing down on you then they will be dangerous, they’re so quick.

"It’s a learning curve and I’m really happy with our players."

United goalkeeper Simon Eastwood had an excellent game, making several impressive stops to keep the hosts in the contest.

He said: "The quality showed through in the second half.

"They were quicker and stronger than us, but that’s why they’re in the Premier League.

"It was a good experience for us to match them for long periods of time. I think the lads can take a lot out of it."
