EDDIE Pepperell produced an encouraging opening round in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open.

The Abingdon golfer, who has missed his last two cuts, carded a three-under total of 67 at Gullane GC in East Lothian.

Pepperell made a superb start with birdies at the second and fourth holes.

The Frilford Heath member picked up another shot at the par three eighth to reach the turn on three-under.

A run of pars ended when he dropped a shot at the par four 15th, but he recovered well to birdie the final hole to seal a top-30 spot ahead of today’s second round which sees him tee off at 9.30am.
