NORTH Oxford’s men made it four wins out of four in the Team Tennis National League.

An 8-4 success over second-placed Winchester saw the side strengthen their position at the top of the table.

And with the three weakest teams to play, they look firm favourites to win the division and advance to the play-offs.

No 1 Cameron Price had a titanic battle before going down 6-4, 6-4.

Such was the intensity of his match, when Price was level at 4-4 in the first set, every other North Oxford player had already won their rubber.

The most notable victory came from Jon Maskens, who hit back from 4-1 behind in the first set to win 6-4, 6-0 – spurred on by his wife going into labour.

Maskens missed the doubles, but victory in one of the other rubbers secured victory.

  • NORTH Oxford host a British Tour event next week, which will involve former British No 2 Dan Evans and Oxfordshire top player Alexis Canter.
