STEWART Donald, the new owner of Sunderland, will not take up a position as a co-opted member of the OxVox committee.
The West Oxfordshire businessman has been formally announced as the new Black Cats' owner this week.
A lifelong Oxford United supporter, Donald been an investor at the U’s with his company, Bridle Insurance, a former shirt sponsor.
Evo-Stik South League club North Leigh were another side to benefit from his sponsorship.
Donald, who has paid Ellis Short £40m for the now League One club over the next two years, was introduced to the media along with business partner Charlie Methven – another United fan.
However, his new role means both he and OxVox, the U's supporters' trust, felt it was not right he continued on their committee.
"Due to the completion of the purchase of AFC Sunderland by Stewart, it was felt by the committee, and agreed by Stewart, that there could be a potential conflict of interest if Stewart were a co-opted member of the OxVox Committee," OxVox said in a statement.
"With this in mind we wish to inform members that we have decided not to accept Stewart as a co-opted member of the committee.
"Stewart remains a friend of the club and a friend of OxVox.
"While wishing him well with his new venture at Sunderland, we look forward to taking six points from them next season!"
