OXFORD United are planning to change shape when they host Scunthorpe United today (12.45).

The U’s have deployed a diamond in midfield for the last couple of games, but Karl Robinson favours wingers.

While he did not want to say the exact system he plans to use, the new head coach saw areas needing improvement during his first game in charge – last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at Portsmouth.

He said: “I was happy with how we played, but there’s so much more to come.

“We’ve got to be more aggressive in the final third and we’ve got to put more crosses in, which is difficult in a diamond.

“We’re looking to maybe go back to a system I’m comfortable with and get some width in our play, but is it a 4-4-2, a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3?”

Alex Mowatt begins a three-game ban for his red card at Fratton Park, while Gino van Kessel (hamstring) is unavailable after suffering an injury playing for Curacao.

But Canice Carroll and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts are back from international duty, while Jon Obika (hip) could be fit.

Scunthorpe interim boss Nick Daws has Clayton Lewis available again after international duty with New Zealand.

Right back Jordan Clarke could make his first start since November following a hamstring injury, but Lee Novak, Marnick Vermijl and Luke Williams have only just returned to training after knocks.
