KARL Walker starred with a superb break of 76 as Abingdon Conservative Club A came from behind to win the Gentworks Oxford & District Snooker League’s Simonds Cup.

In the final at Thame, Abingdon lost the first two legs to opponents Oracle B, but stormed through to win the remaining frames for a 4-2 victory.

Walker’s night did not start well with a 56-49 defeat by Connor Jones, while Pom Merola put Oracle 2-0 up by defeating Mick Bennett 86-36 with a break of 39.

Ross Barker got Abingdon off the mark with a victory over John Donkin, before Walker’s big break helped him gain revenge over Jones 110-19.

Bennett and Barker, the only unbeaten player, completed Abingdon’s comeback.

In the Sherlock Cup final, New Club B defeated Thame B 4-1, the key moment coming when Nigel Bossom beat Derek Syrett on the black in the third frame with the score at 1-1.

The highest break was Phil Baker’s 29 which put Thame into an early lead.

l FIELDSIDE will play Oxford Bowls B in the Gentworks Oxford & District Billiards League’s Atox Cup final.

In the semi-finals, Simon Aries won twice as Fieldside triumphed 4-2 at Oxford Bowls A, while the Bowls Club’s B team edged home 4-3 against Thame.
