DEREK Fazackerley praised Oxford United's commitment after they claimed a much-needed victory to climb away from trouble in Sky Bet League One.

Rob Dickie and James Henry secured a 2-1 win at home to in-form Peterborough United, which opened the gap to the relegation zone to six points.

With the U's expected to appoint a new manager next week, it could have been Fazackerley's last game in caretaker charge.

And he felt the hosts were good value for the three points.

He said: "It’s a fantastic result – a 2-1 victory against a side who have had two or three good results behind them and they have a very dangerous front three who always create problems.

"But I thought the players were resilient, stuck at it and offered them very few chances.

"I was disappointed a little bit in the goal they scored because it’s come from a set play indirectly, but overall I thought we deserved to win the game.

"There was quite a lot of intensity in it and when you’re in a position like we are where we’ve not won at home for a considerable amount of time then you do need that type of game.

"The commitment from the players was excellent.

"I’m pleased they’ve been rewarded because the performances of late have not been as bad as the results.

"Ultimately we’re judged on results and a home result like this has been a long time coming."

Dickie put United ahead in the sixth minute, when a Henry corner dropped to him in the six-yard box.

The defender said: "I’ll take them however they come. I’m just happy we got three points.

"It’s a mixture of the delivery and just being in the right place at the right time, sometimes you get lucky.

"Thankfully for me today I was the lucky one."

United faced a tense finish when seven minutes were added on, but Posh boss Steve Evans felt much more was needed.

He said: "I think we've all experienced trying to waste time in football but today was a new one for me.

"He could have added 20 minutes and it would have been about right.

"But take nothing away from them, well done Oxford, good luck and we wish you well."
