CITY of Oxford’s Toby Mackay-Champion secured a super third place in the Edinburgh International Meet, which incorporated the British Championships.

Competing in the 200m breaststroke A final, he finished just behind England stars Ross Murdoch and James Wilby.

David Murphy set a season’s best time when winning the B final, in which clubmate Callum Smart was fourth.

In the 100m breaststroke A final, Murphy came fifth behind world champion Adam Peaty, with Smart ninth.

Smart also came a creditable fifth in the 50m breaststroke A final, while Nick Skelton swam a personal best in the 200m backstroke.

It was also a great day for Connor Bryan, who triumphed in the junior 200m breaststroke in a season’s best time and was second in the 100m equivalent.

Other City swimmers competing were Emily Ford, Ellie Millington, Yasmin Tajalli, Mimi Morley-Iszatt and Lewis Gilchrist

Meanwhile, Abingdon Vale’s Harry James also had the thrill of racing against Peaty in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke and produced season’s best times.

Vale clubmate Natalia Druett, 15, took to the water in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke, while Lottie James, 14, was one of the youngest competitors in the 50m backstroke.

Both produced times that moved them up the British rankings.

CITY of Oxford SC had plenty of success when they hosted two development meets for young swimmers from other local clubs.

Many members competed for the first time.
