OXFORD Hawks scored twice in each half as they won 4-1 at home to Oxfordshire rivals Henley end to stay six points clear in South League Premier Division 1.

After the visitors missed two early chances, Hawks took the lead in the 14th minute when Matt Wood converted from Andy Watts’s pass.

The hosts took control of the game and added a second goal seven minutes before the break, when Ted Bennett finished off an excellent move involving Tom Godding and Ryan Hammond.

Three minutes into the second half, Rob Dunnill popped up for a rare goal after an initial shot from Hammond was blocked.

Henley rallied, forcing home keeper Chris Price to make some fine saves.

He was eventually beaten with 14 minutes left.

But Hawks had the final say when Tom Godding finished off the best move of the match following interplay with Wood, Mike Cullimore and Watts.

Oxford crashed 4-0 at home to Maidenhead in Regional 1, feeling crucial umpiring decisions went against them.

The hosts also failed to convert a number of short corners after dominating possession, without threatening the Maidenhead goal.

Witney’s hopes of winning the Regional 2 title suffered a blow, when they lost 2-1 away to South Berkshire on Sunday in their second game of a weekend double-header.

Having won 3-0 at home to Oxford 2nd the previous day, they still have promotion in their own hands, but Reading are now in the driving seat for the title.

Against Oxford 2nd, Witney’s Rory Heaslip rattled the bar in a goalless first half.

The hosts continued to dictate in the second half, and Heaslip put them ahead after Ben Moss and Ryan Fitz-John had torn open the visiting defence with some great interplay

Their second score came when Fraser Barnard drilled at goal and Dan Wallis scrambled the ball over the line.

Harry Harbage completed the scoring with a cheeky reverse flick.

The following day, Witney were below par in the 2-1 defeat at South Berks.

After a goalless first half, the hosts took the lead.

Andy Gosnell replied for Witney, slotting home a penalty flick after the ball hit a foot on the hosts’ goalline, but that could not prevent a surprise defeat.
