OXFORDSHIRE recovered from a disastrous start to draw with leaders Cornwall in their BDO Inter Counties Championship Division 1 clash at St Austell.

It was a fluctuating match with Oxon coming back from 6-0 down to lead 14-10, only for the hosts to make it 18-18.

Oxon’s hopes of knocking Cornwall off the top looked bleak after their Ladies’ B team were whitewashed.

But then a fantastic performance from the Men’s B outfit, who triumphed 11-1, put Oxon in charge with an 11-7 overnight lead.

They were led by man-of-the-match Shane Turner with a superb average of 31.31.

Oxon’s other wins came from Dan Smith (26.68), Steve Dennett, Terry Wood, Mark Burns, Simon Tricker, Brandon Richardson, Aaron Stevens (26.37), Pete Smith, Andy Thomas and Simon Key.

The Ladies’ A match was drawn with Kim Ledbury, Leanne Jennings (21.88) and lady-of-the-match Deta Hedman (26.05) victorious for Oxon

Still leading by four points, the visitors were favourites, but Cornwall fought back with an 8-4 success in the Men’s A match

Oxon’s points came from Ade Larner, Kevin Lowe, Tom Baughan and man-of-the-match Paddy Kearns (27.16).

Oxon slipped back to fifth, but are only six points behind joint leaders Gwent and Cornwall in a congested promotion race.
