XEMI has left Oxford United by mutual consent after agreeing to terminate his contract.
The midfielder was one of Pep Clotet’s first signings last summer, agreeing a three-year deal after being released by Barcelona B.
He scored on his debut, the 4-3 Carabao Cup first round defeat at home to Cheltenham Town in August.
Xemi also scored in his first appearance in Sky Bet League One, capping off October’s 3-0 win against AFC Wimbledon.
The Spaniard started eight games in all competitions, but has not featured since being replaced at half-time in the 7-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic before Christmas.
He told the club's website: “It hasn’t worked out here and I’m sad to be leaving because it is a fantastic club.
"But at the same time I want to be playing football and that means a new chapter for me elsewhere, which is exciting.
“There are some great people at Oxford. I made a decision to live in the centre of Oxford to try and feel part of the culture here.
"That has been a wonderful experience and I want to thank everyone who has made my stay so enjoyable.”
