FRANK Lampard is in talks to become the new Oxford United manager, according to one national newspaper.

The Sun have linked the 39-year-old, who has become the bookmakers' favourite for the vacant post this morning.

And the former Chelsea star is now the bookies' favourite at 3-1 on Odds Checker.

Lampard was rumoured to be in the running last summer, but Pep Clotet was appointed as Michael Appleton's successor instead.

The Spaniard was sacked yesterday after less than seven months in charge.

Lampard, who won 106 England caps, has been keen to move into coaching and has worked with Chelsea's young players.

In that context it would not be surprising if he watched United this evening, when they visit Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea Under 21s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

There is a link with United, having worked on Sky Sports alongside presenter David Jones, who is on the club's board.
