OXFORD City were unable to continue their fine form as they were knocked out of the Buildbase FA Trophy following a 2-1 defeat at home to Hereford.

Dara O’Shea headed the winner for the visitors in the third qualifying round tie as the Vanarama National League South side fell to their first loss in five games.

Thame United are also out after they were beaten 3-1 at Haringey Borough.

And Oxfordshire’s interest in the competition ended when Banbury United lost 3-2 after extra-time in their second qualifying round replay at home to Farnborough.

At a chilly Court Place Farm, City named their Emirates FA Cup goalscoring hero Matt Paterson on the bench.

They started well, taking the lead on 11 minutes when full back Freddie Grant rose highest to head home a corner.

Eddie Jones cleared off the line for City as Evo-Stik South League Premier Division side Hereford looked to respond.

But the visitors equalised on 20 minutes when former Didcot Town striker John Mills slotted under Jack Stevens.

Hereford took the lead just after the hour mark as O’Shea nodded home a free-kick.

Joe Oastler looked to have levelled late on, but his header was cleared off the line.

South League East Division side Thame’s bid to reach the first round for the first time ended in a 3-1 loss at Haringey.

The Bostik League North hosts took the lead through Jordan Edwards’ strike.

Dan West levelled for Thame with 15 minutes to go, but they were denied by two late goals.

Anthony McDonald scored from the spot, before Michael Ademiluyi netted the third.

South League Premier Division outfit Banbury lost 3-2 after extra-time at home to league rivals Farnborough.

An early Jefferson Louis goal was ruled out for offside, but he was not to be denied for long, firing past Aiden Upward on 14 minutes.

The visitors levelled on 36 minutes when Josh Huggins found the top corner.

And it was 2-1 on the hour as Perry Coles picked himself up after being fouled by George Nash to score from the spot.

Banbury hit back, also netting from a penalty when Louis fired home following Jack Barton’s handball.

Jamie Cureton hit the bar for Farnborough as the tie finished 2-2 at normal time.

But the winner arrived seven minutes into extra-time, when Nic Ciardini scored from close range.

Perry Coles was sent off for the visitors, but Banbury were unable to reply.
