OXFORDSHIRE Under 14s got their Shires League campaign up and running with a thrilling 10-10 draw against Surrey 2nd.

The absence of several key players meant that the team included an eight-year-old, but they battled superbly to claim a share of the spoils in the game at Abingdon’s St Helen and St Katharine School.

Ben Horseman, Jason Ou, Rebecca Norkett and Jeevika Tilakraj went through the match unbeaten, with Clement Jin, Leo Saarelma, Inka Saarelma and Erin Murphy making up the team.

Oxfordshire’s under 18 side proved a class above Warwickshire 2nd, running out convincing 19-1 winners.

Ethan Rose, Christian Mitchell, James Moreton-Smith, Luke Backley, Bronwynn Ready, Maisie Marriott, Hannah Craig, Safia Khimji and Maisie Boyd were on song.

Three Oxon juniors won bronze in Leicester.

Matthew Dunn and Harry Jones partnered each other in the doubles at the Under 15 Bronze tournament, while Adam Burden also picked up a medal in the Under 15 Silver doubles.
