IF you want to be part of a boisterous Oxford United away day but the thought of a 400-mile round-trip to Fleetwood Town tomorrow does not appeal, a solution is at hand.

In recent seasons a particular fixture on the road has been selected for U’s fans to make a special effort, but this time it comes with a twist.

The Yellow Army Away Day (at home) has been launched for Northampton Town’s visit on November 11.

U’s fans Simon Hathaway and Tim Walker are helping to organise the light-hearted idea, which is aimed at treating the fixture as a game on the road.

A range of options for pubs, restaurants and even accommodation have been suggested, depending on what fans want from an away day.

Walker, who intends to change his routine by heading into the city centre before the game, said: “Our aim is simple – to try to bring the brilliant atmosphere that we generate at away games to a home game.

“In addition we want everyone to be able to enjoy the incredible city of Oxford as if it was an away destination.

“It would be great if people did their usual away day thing in the city and then brought the same intense level of away day backing to the stands.”
