OXFORD Hawks were controversially denied a late winner and had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home to Olton & West Warwicks in the Investec Women’s Western Conference.

Hawks, playing at Banbury Road North for the first time in two months, went behind to a 20th-minute penalty corner and were still trailing with ten minutes to play.

But the hosts pulled level through Annabelle Denley’s shot from a penalty corner.

Three minutes later, they went ahead through Catherine Reaney, who latched on to the rebound after Caro Harris’s initial penalty corner strike had been saved.

Their lead, however, lasted just a minute as Olton drew level with a deflection at the back post.

Hawks were on top in the closing moments and thought they had won it until having their ‘goal’ ruled out.
