BEN Goodall’s brilliant run of success continued when he gained a silver medal in the England Tumbling Championships.

Having just flown back from Portugal where he took gold for GB in the Loulé Cup, the Harwell tumbler was unlucky not to take gold in the one-day event at Sheffield.

In the morning session a small mistake on the first run saw him back in third position, but his second run was much better and moved him up to top spot going into the evening’s final.

In the final, the second-placed gymnast recorded a high score.

Determined to fight for the gold, Goodall opted to try a new run with a higher difficultly than he had competed before.

It all went well until his final move.

As he went up, his feet caught the landing mat, reducing his height and left him unable to perform the difficult ending.

Using all his experience, he downgraded to a double-piked somersault, forfeiting nearly two points.

A solid landing saw him drop down one place to silver.

Back in the Milton Keynes gym this week, he will be preparing ahead of his trip to Bulgaria for the World Championships next month.

l Abingdon GC’s Lexi-Mae Neal has qualified to compete in December’s British Championships after a high finish in the British Challenge Cup.

Neal came 13th out of more than 60, achieving a qualifying mark in the process.

Meanwhile, Oscar Hobden and Tai Anderson, representing Abingdon, won gold medals in the Tom Wilson Invitational at Milton Keynes.
