OXFORD Hawks trailed twice before earning a 3-3 draw away to Spencer in a Men’s South League Premier 1 clash.

Although Hawks created more chances in the first half, they found the home goalkeeper in commanding form, and it was Spencer who opened the scoring after 20 minutes.

The visitors drew level before the break from their only penalty corner of the game.

The initial shot from Jack Biggs was saved but not cleared, and Will Heywood forced home from close range to score his first goal for the club.

Spencer regained the lead midway through the half, but Hawks levelled again within a minute when a fine move was deftly finished off by Ben Gregory.

Hawks went ahead against the run of play when a long ball gave Matt Wood a clear run on goal and he made no mistake.

The hosts took advantage of Hawks’s inability to hang on to the ball and equalised from a penalty corner four minutes from time.

Hawks will welcome Australian recruit Ryan Hammond to their ranks this weekend.

Oxford continued their impressive start in Regional Premier 1 with a 5-0 win at Ashford.

Two early goals from Si Culmer and Arron Leadbeater stunned Ashford, whose only real passage of play came when the umpire reduced Oxford to eight players with three green cards.

They withstood the pressure and added two goals from a revitalised Dan Bleach and a late penalty flick from Sean Cox, after Bleach had been brought down in the D.

There were five different scorers as Witney defeated Eastcote 2nd – from a division above – 5-0 in a friendly.

The goals came courtesy of Justin Peel, Fraser Barnard, Andy James Gosnell, Liam Frost and Rob Manson in only his second appearance for the club.
