ANDY Watts scored twice as Oxford Hawks kick-started their South League Premier 1 season with a 4-1 win at home to London Edwardians.

However, coach Todd Williams’s side had to come from behind after conceding five minutes before half-time.

Jack Biggs fired home the equaliser from a penalty corner five minutes into the second half to level the scores, and Hawks never looked back.

Ted Bennett put them ahead and Watts capped a fine performance with his brace.

Oxford went top of Regional Division 1 with a 4-0 win over Amersham & Chalfont.

Sean Cox put Oxford ahead with a cheeky reverse-stick shot, while their other goals came in the second half from James Rayward, Dale Beckley and Jonny Campbell.

Oxford completed a memorable weekend by knocking last year’s semi-finalists Trojans out of the England Hockey Tier 2 Cup with a 2-1 victory.

Both goals came from Seb Wustrow, who scored the winner with two minutes left.

Witney twice came from behind to beat hosts Sonning 4-2 in Regional Division 2.

Strikes from Liam Frost and Harry Harbage brought the newly-promoted visitors level at half-time.

Witney went in front when Andy James Gosnell sent a dragflick past the home keeper before Ben Moss competed the scoring against Sonning, who had a player red-carded late on.

Bicester posted their first win, when they routed visitors Ashford 2nd 10-0 in Middlesex Berks, Bucks & Oxon Division 1.

With Will Hartley pulling the strings, the hosts scored five goals in each half.

Dave Sutcliffe led the way with a hat-trick, while other goals came from Ollie Hartley (2), Ben Kirk (2), Will Hartley, Jamie Inshaw and Leo Graves.

Five different players scored as Abingdon made it two wins out of two in Middlesex BB&O Division 2 with a 5-1 victory over Milton Keynes 3rd.

Milton Keynes opened the scoring, but Hugo Audley-Miller equalised quickly before Will Trigg gave Abingdon the advantage.

Just before half-time, skipper Connor Blakey made it 3-1. Further strikes from Adam Passfield and Luke Casey secured the win, which moves Abingdon to third in the table.

  • LAURA Pickervance hit a double as Oxford stormed to a 7-0 victory at home to Hampstead & Westminster 3rd in Women’s South League Division 3A.

The hosts led 3-0 at the break, thanks to goals from Pickervance (2) and Carlijn Ten Heggeler.

Oxford added goals through Bubble Baddeley, Floor Timmer, Rachael Lammey and Olivia Strickland on her first-team debut.

Oxford Hawks lost 2-1 away to Gloucester City in the Investec Western Conference.

Catherine Reaney put Hawks ahead, but they could not hold on to their lead.

Bicester returned to winning ways in Trysports Three Counties Division 1, with a 4-1 victory at home to Oxford 4th, thanks to goals from Beth Forrest (2), Nicolene Willers and top-scorer Alison Haik.

A hat-trick from Fiona Bethel led Abingdon to a 7-2 success away to Oxford Hawks 5th in Division 2.

Two goals from Laura Dean, plus efforts from Ellie Desmond and Ali Watson – her first for the club – helped them hit seven goals for the second successive week. Pip Cantwell netted twice for Hawks.
