OXFORD United’s community trust has received an increase in funding after their work was scrutinised for several months.

The Premier League and English Football League looked into every area of the charity and awarded it ‘Capability Status’, confirming it is fit for purpose.

It will lead to a 167 per cent increase in funding for the PL Primary Stars programme, which translates into thousands of pounds to extend its work with children across Oxfordshire.

A delighted Kate Longworth, the charity’s chief executive, said: “It was a very tough process this year and last, which has seen the charity go on a very positive journey.

“Everyone has put in a lot of hours and effort to make this progress possible, and in doing so they will impact in many lives, young and old, in the county.”
