INDIA Mae Thompson is nervous, yet excited about her quest to win titles in three different countries.

The 15-year-old, from Witney, is competing in World Championship events in Switzerland, England and Italy over the course of 30 days.

Firstly, the Burford School pupil travels to Arbon for the WMAG World Championships on Friday, September 29.

Thompson’s next event is a little closer to home, the ICO equivalent in Birmingham on October 20-22, before she flies out to Carrera for the Unified tournament three days later.

The thought of competing abroad for England is one that excites the teenager, but there is an element of anxiousness.

Thompson said: “It’s really soon and I’m getting quite nervous about the ones in Switzerland and Italy. It’s a bit nerve-wracking going to different countries.

“It’s exciting as well because I will meet new people and really want to travel the world. I’ve not been to those countries before.

“I’m thinking about it all the time.”

Thompson has already impressed on the international stage.

Last year, she won two golds at the European Championships in Rome and two at the World Championships in Germany.

Thompson also clinched her fifth British title last month, triumphing in the -55kg weight category.

She will be taking on competitors aged 15-17 in her up-and-coming competitions, but she is not fazed.

When asked if it is any different fighting against someone who is two years older compared to those her own age, she said: “No, not really.

“But sometimes when they’re older they’re more aggressive and they have a harder punch in them.”
