SIX Bells E Kidlington came out on top in a three-way battle for the Section 2 title, writes ANDY BEAL.

Needing all three points to secure the crown, they duly beat their D team 3-0 in the Greene King Oxford & District League.

The E side won the first leg 21-16, before Robin Busby and Ray Townsend both hit fives to help them set 26, which was met with a reply of 22.

A 22-16 win in the final leg secured maximum points and the title.

Bullnose Morris A had been hoping for a slip-up, but missed out by two points as they beat Donnington Club A 2-1.

Chequers C’s bid faltered in a 2-1 defeat at Black Horse C.

Chris Webb hit 11 dolls to finish as the section’s top-scorer with 202 as Gladiators B beat Vikings Sports A 3-0.

Trevor Greenaway hit his best score in nine years when clanging off 15 (6-5-4), but Premier side Garsington Sports lost 2-1 away to Section 1’s Black Prince.

Rob Bradford whipped off 14 (3-5-6) for the hosts, as did teammate Phil Austin (4-5-5).

Dick Walsh ended the season with a flurry, bagging himself a six in his 16-doll haul (6-5-5).

But it could not prevent Swan A, who won the opening leg, losing 2-1 at Woodman.

Kevin Giles finished as the Premier’s top-scorer with 222, and with the most sixes on eight, as he whipped off 12 in helping champions Gladiators A triumph 3-0 against George.

Bullnose then recorded a 3-0 victory at Cricketers Arms, triumphing 19-15, 22-14, 18-10, to secure the title.

In Section 7, Northway Club C beat their B team 3-0 and, subsequently, finished above them in the final standings.

White Hart Wytham rounded off a good second half to their Section 8 campaign, when beating Kings Arms 2-1 to record a tenth win in a row.

They did it the hard way, though, losing the first leg 12-8, before hitting back to claim the next two 16-5, 11-10.

Gladiators C could muster only five in their first leg against Democrats B, but recovered to triumph 2-1.
