WILLIAMS are celebrating their best double finish of the Formula 1 season.

Lance Stroll, who started second due to grid penalties for other drivers, came home seventh at the Italian Grand Prix, one place ahead of teammate Felipe Massa.

It was only the second time the Grove-based team have seen both cars in the top-ten, following a ninth and tenth-placed finish in Austria.

Stroll said: “I’m very happy with the race and I think it was a good one. I really enjoyed myself.”

The result also consolidated their fifth place in the constructors’ championship.

Massa was relieved contact with his teammate on the final lap at Monza was not an issue.

He said: “It’s always good to score points with both cars.

“I just had a little touch at the end with Lance but fortunately nothing happened and we managed to finish well.”

Kevin Magnussen just missed out on delivering a point for Haas, who are based in Banbury, coming home 11th.

He said: “It is probably the best result we could’ve scored.

“It’s still annoying when you’re running in the points the whole race and then you get done at the end.

“Max (Verstappen) was a lot faster than me.”

Nico Hulkenberg was 13th in the Enstone-prepared Renault.

He said: “As we had anticipated, we lost out on top speed, meaning we couldn’t fight with the cars ahead.”
