DAVID Willmore produced some huge efforts on the way to finishing second in the over 45 category at the American Golf UK Long Drive Championship.

The 47-year-old, from Brize Norton, blasted one drive of 398 yards at Heythrop Park as he finished runner-up for the second year running.

Although he lost to Charles Seo in the final, the Burford member was happy to be in the mix.

He said: “I love this event and Heythrop Park is a superb location for the American Golf Long Drive final.

“The guys are getting better and better, but this is the second year I have made it to the final so am really pleased with my performance.

“Winning would feel a whole lot better, so I am determined to take what I have learnt away with me and come back even stronger and take the title next year.”

Elsewhere, Eddie Pepperell was also just edged out, finishing in a tie for second place at the British Par 3 Championship.

The Frilford Heath golfer, from Abingdon, ended on 78 shots for the two-round event at Nailcote Hall, two strokes behind winner Richard O’Hanlon.
