EDDIE Pepperell has been disqualified as rain and storms have disrupted the Porsche European Open in Hamburg.

The Frilford Heath golfer was set to miss the cut on three over par when the storm hit after he had played 14 holes of his second round.

Before play resumed after an almost four-hour delay, the 26-year-old was disqualified – one of five players to have suffered this fate - as returning to the course would have seen him miss his flight home.

For the second day, Pepperell, who had a poor finish to his first-round 74, faltered after a good start.

Two early birdies were cancelled out by bogeys, before a double-bogey at the 11th hole ended his chances of making the cut, which is likely to come at one under.
